Moon River Senior Care in partnership with its school, Moon River Nursing Careers, offers the following training courses:

Home Health Aide (HHA)

This 75-hour course consists of 59 hours of online training and 16 hours in the skills lab at Moon River Nursing Careers. It includes training to work with people in either a private home or group home setting.
Home Health Aides make it possible for people to get care in the comfort of their own homes. A Home Health Aide assists with the activities of daily living such as eating, dressing, bathing, transfers, and toileting. They help with meal preparation, laundry, light housekeeping, and organizational tasks. They monitor a person’s wellbeing and report concerns to the supervising nurse.
Courses are offered weekdays/weekends.

Nurse Aide

This is required course to take the Board of Nursing exam to become a CNA. The 140-hour training includes 40 hours online, 20 hours training in dementia and end-of-life care, 32 hours skills lab and 48 hours clinical experience working with patients.

For the online portion of the course, we utilize professionally produced videos to illustrate a typical day in the life of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). The skills lab sessions will be scheduled at our school where all training is done in compliance with social distancing. All students wear masks for Skills lab training during the Pandemic. There are weekday, evening and weekend options for scheduling the lab sessions and clinicals. Clinical training is taking place at a long-term care facility in Leesburg, VA.

The 120-hour Nurse Aide class provides the training to get started in a healthcare career. A student who completes the Nurse Aide class is prepared to take the Virginia Board of Nursing exam to become a CNA. After becoming a certified nursing assistant, a student will find there are many different career paths to pursue.  These employment opportunities include hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living, memory care, medical offices and in home health. The number of jobs in this field is growing due to the number of people over the age of 70. In addition, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that jobs for nursing assistants will grow 9 percent by 2028. This is a much faster job growth than for other occupations; therefore, a great path for stable employment.

Nurse Aide refresher course for Board of Nursing exam to become a CNA

This 8-hour course includes two hours online to review the written section and take practice exams. This is followed by six hours in the skills lab to include hands-on skills practice, mock skills exam, and an opportunity to discuss the written portion. The Nurse Aide refresher course also includes additional access to online training videos. It is designed for students taking the Board of Nursing exam for the first time, those who need to take it again and those whose license has expired. Training is online and in the skills lab.
