Pre-health paid internships
Are you seeking experience in patient care? Moon River Senior Care in partnership with Moon River Nursing Careers in Ashburn, VA is offering paid internships for colleges students and recent college graduates. This is a great opportunity if you are planning on attending medical school, nursing school, PA School or exploring another career related to healthcare. Interns typically have majored in Biology, Neuroscience, Nursing, Social Work, Psychology or other healthcare related fields, but we will consider other majors as well. This internship requires working 12-15 hours per week for a minimum of 8 consecutive months.
Interns receive the benefit of getting 120 hours of Nurse Aide training at no charge ($1,850.00 value). This provides the prerequisite to take the Virginia Board of Nursing exam to be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
The internship has several components.
A) The first is the 120 hours of training provided by Moon River Nursing Careers to become a Nursing Assistant. The class is structured as follows: 50 hours on-line instruction using the American Red Cross curriculum 30 hours in the skills lab at Moon River Nursing Careers in Ashburn, VA. 40 hours clinical placement at a long-term care facility.
B) The second phase of the internship involves working as Nursing Assistant with Moon River Senior Care, assisting older adults with the activities of daily living. A minimum of 400 hours is required to complete the internship, but many students will choose to complete far more hours. Patient care hours can be completed daytime, evenings and/or weekends. The total number of hours completed are included in the intern’s letter of recommendation.
C) All interns will be part of the class that meets every two weeks in the evening for educational sessions that include well-respected leaders in healthcare. These are currently been done via ZOOM.
The internship program includes 20-30 students annually, and a new class starts the first week of every month.
